Community Bible Church in Knoxville, Illinois, is seeking a full-time pastor, called by God to serve as the spiritual leader of the congregation. The pastor is responsible to God and to the church to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the Bible, to provide Christian leadership in all areas of the church and to engage in the pastoral care of the congregation.

  Pastoral Profile Qualifications

  • The Pastor shall be a man of unquestionable character, living a life in accordance with the Word of God. He shall be in agreement with the Doctrinal Statement of this church and will abide by the constitution and bylaws of this church. The Pastor shall become a member of Community Bible Church
  • The Pastor should meet all of the requirements for church leadership found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
  • He must be called by God to serve as a Pastor in a local church setting.
  • The Pastor should possess the Spiritual Gifts of leadership, teaching, mentoring, Shepherding, encouragement, servanthood
  • He must have a passion for equipping others for the work of ministry. (Ephesians 4:12)
  • He must be able to apply Biblical principles to everyday life and help others to do so.
  • He must be able to give Biblical counsel with confidence and discretion.
  • Ordination preferred.

  Experience and Education

  • A four year Bible-related degree or a seminary degree is preferred
  • Pastoral ministry experience is required.
  • The Pastor should have a proven track record of developing disciples.
  • The Pastor must have a history of effective preaching, Bible teaching, and leadership.

  Duties The Pastor is accountable to the church for fulfilling the following:

  • Provide leadership and mentoring for the Elder Board, exemplifying being a leader of leaders.
  • Provide guidance to the church family to maintain a focus on Community Bible Church’s Purpose, Vision, and Mission.
  • Focus on relationship building with individuals of the church family, making periodic visits to develop and strengthen relationships
  • Preach regularly at Sunday morning services and special services, working with the Worship Team to develop worship services that glorify God.
  • Preside over communion, baptisms, weddings, funerals and other special services as called to do so.
  • Encourage Spiritual Growth among believers.
  • Take the lead in providing pastoral care to those who are sick or grieving, and regularly visit those who are homebound, hospitalized or in nursing homes.
  • Be accessible and sensitive to the needs of all demographics within the congregation.
  • Be involved in intercessory prayer on behalf of the congregation and community.
  • Provide premarital counseling.
  • Promote and encourage the various ministries of Community Bible Church.
  • Provide leadership to church staff and conduct an annual evaluation of paid staff.
  • Become involved in community activities in order to build relationships and represent Christ and Community Bible Church in the community.
  • Seek to connect with other area pastors and ministry leaders, including the Knoxville Council of Churches
  • Maintain regular office hours
  • Time Commitment: Full time position (minimum 40 hours per week).
