Brief History of Community Bible

Community Bible Church was formed in July 1991 by seven families who felt the need for an evangelical church to be established in Knoxville, Illinois. The church began meeting in an old flower shop and average attendance was about thirty people. The church slowly grew, purchased property and built a new church building in 1996 with a sanctuary able to seat 200 people.

In January 2001, after much discussion, the decision was made to make Community an Elder led church. At that time the first Elder Board was formed and a constitution and by-laws were adopted.

As with any church or organization, Community has seen members come and go, but has steadily grown in membership since its humble beginnings in the flower shop. Community started a vibrant AWANA program after moving to our permanent building and currently has a number of small groups and bible studies to offer to our community. We help support several missionaries throughout the globe, and work to create opportunities for our membership to serve others within our community. Community strives to offer the message of Jesus Christ through a contemporary service where everyone is welcome. All of this in our attempt to live up to our Mission: Share Christ, Build Believers, Serve Others. We are strong today through the leadership of Jesus Christ, God’s unending mercy and the power of the Holy Spirit.
