At Community we want to begin 2019 by intentionally seeking the Lord together as a church family, with 21 days of prayer and fasting.

Our hope is that giving these first three weeks corporately to the Lord in focused prayer will provide spiritual momentum and help us align our hearts with God’s will for the year ahead.

What is Fasting?

Matthew 6:16-18, 9:14-15, Luke 18:9-14 & Acts 27:33-37

The goal of fasting is intimacy with God and clarity in hearing His voice. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; laying down the pleasures of earth to set our hearts on things above. It also enables us to recognize the goodness of God and align our hearts with His.

Pray as the Lord leads and spend time listening for Him to speak to you through the Word and in times of silence and reflection.

Here are three areas for focused pray together:

  1. PERSONAL: God show me how I can partner with and grow closer to you in 2019. Help me live out what you show me. Show me how to love others above myself.
  2. CHURCH: Lord, help our church to be a light for you. Lead our leaders to ways for us to represent you well
  3. KNOX COUNTY: Father, break my heart for this community. Help me serve the lost and reach them with your love. In Jesus Name, Amen.  If you take the challenge to fast with Community these next 21 days, it is important that you know your own body, your options, and – most importantly – that you seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

Options for Fasting

COMPLETE FAST: In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option. SELECTIVE FAST: This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food. (Daniel Fast Plan available HERE.) PARTIAL FAST: This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown. SOUL FAST: This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
